Emory Women's Soccer Eliminated from the NCAA Tournament with 1-0 Loss to Lynchburg

Emory University's run in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament ended on Sunday, as the Eagles suffered a 1-0 loss to third-ranked Lynchburg College (Va.).

The loss marks the second-consecutive year that Lynchburg has taken advantage of a home match to eliminate the Eagles from National Title contention.  Last season, the Hornets defeated the Eagles 2-1 in two overtime periods during the NCAA's round of 16.

After a scoreless first half, Lynchburg's Katie Santos scored the eventual game-winning goal, after Betsy Kwiatowski beat the Emory defender to the end line, and subsequently fed Santos for the score.

Emory finished the match holding a 14-11 advantage in shots, and a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.  However, the Eagles were unable to take advantage of the opportunities throughout the match.Emory will end its 2008 season with a 16-4-1 overall record, while Lynchburg remained undefeated, improving to 21-0-3.  The Hornets will advance to the round of 16, where they will face Ithaca College.
