No. 22 Emory Falls to Reigning NAIA Champion Lee, 4-0, in Season-Opening Match

The Emory University women's soccer team had its hands full with last year's NAIA Champions, Lee University, as the Eagles fell to the Lady Flames 4-0 in Cleveland, TN on Wednesday night.

The Eagles were outshot 27-to-nine during the match, including a 16-to-five disadvantage in shots on goal.  Melanie Levy and Hailey Morris each took two shots for the Emory.

Emory junior goalkeeper Kirsten Baecher was peppered throughout the match by Lee, turning away 12 shots, despite allowing four goals.  The 12 saves marks the 10th-highest single-game total in school history.

The Eagles fell to 0-1-0 with the loss, while Lee improved to 2-1-0 on the campaign.

Emory will return to action on Saturday, September 5th, when the Eagles will play their home opener against Maryville College (Tenn.) at 6:00 PM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.

Game Notes:
The loss marks the first in a season-opening match for the Eagles since the 2004 season, when Emory dropped a 4-0 decision to Berry College... Emory is now 18-3-2 all time in its season-opening matches... This was the first meeting between the two programs.
