22nd-Ranked Emory to Face Maryville and Illinois Wesleyan During Home-Opening Weekend
The Emory women's soccer team, ranked 22nd in
Division III, will try to bounce back from its season-opening loss
to Lee University, as the Eagles will take on Maryville College
(Tenn.) and Illinois Wesleyan University at the Woodruff
Physical Education Center this weekend.
Emory fell 4-0 to Lee in their season-opening match on Wednesday
night. The Eagles, who went 16-4-2 last season, are 21-1-1
all time in home-opening matches, including 20-consecutive
home-opener victories, dating back to the 1989 season.
The Eagles will play in their home-opening match on Saturday at
6:00 PM against the Maryville College Scots. Emory is 8-1-1
all-time against Maryville. The Scots are 0-1-0 this season,
following a 17-4-1 record in 2008.
On Sunday at 4:00 PM, the Eagles will host the Illinois Wesleyan
University Titans, marking the first meeting between the two squads
in the history of the programs. The Titans are 1-0-0 this
season, with their win coming over eighth-ranked Washington
University (Mo.), following their 15-6-2 record in 2008.
