Eagles Extend Undefeated Streak with 3-0 Win Over Millsaps
The Emory University women's soccer team extended its undefeated
streak to five games, as the Eagles shutout the Millsaps College
Majors 3-0 on Sunday at the Smart Women Sweat Classic.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles unleashed a fury of goals
during a 10-minute period to end the contest. In the
80th minute, sophomore Kelly
Short struck the game-winner to put the Eagles ahead
1-0.
Adding on goals before the end of the game would be freshman
Hailey Morris and junior Emily
Rubin. The goal was the first of Morris' career,
while Rubin notched her second of the season. Senior
Talia Dweck and junior Melanie
Levy each picked up assists in the contests, and are
currently tied for the team lead with three helpers this
season.
Emory goalkeeper Kirsten Baecher made her fifth
start of the season, recording her first-career complete game
shutout. The junior made two saves during the contest,
lowering her goals against average to 1.41 and improving to 1-1-3
on the season.
After dropping the opening game of the season to Lee University,
the Eagles have not lost in their last five games. Emory has
gone 2-0-3 during that stretch, improving to 2-1-3 overall on the
campaign.
The loss was the first of the season for the Majors, who dropped to
4-1-0 as a result.
The Eagles will continue their road trip this week, as the squad
will travel across town to Oglethorpe University to face the Stormy
Petrels at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 16th.
Game Notes:
Emory outshot Millsaps by a 30-3 margin, marking the fifth
time this season the Eagles have shot in double-digits, and the
third time they have held their opponent to single-digit shots...
Emory has outscored its opponents seven-to-one over its last three
games.
