Seniors Shine in Emory’s 4-1 Win Over Sewanee

On Senior Day for the Eagles, Emory University senior Talia Dweck scored a goal and broke the school's single season assist record, while her fellow senior Olivia Lezanski added a goal of her own, guiding the team to a 4-1 victory over the University of the South.

Emory got off to a fast start thanks to Lezanski, who scored her third goal of the season in the 10th-minute of play.  Junior Meghan McMahon stole a ball away from the Tigers' defender and crossed it to Lezanski on the play for her first assist of the campaign.

The Eagles' lead would be short-lived, however, as an own-goal at the 12:12 mark cost Emory its advantage in the contest.  After the quick start, the score would remain knotted at one through the rest of the half.

Emory would break through in the second half as junior Melanie Levy scored her third goal in the last two games, and her fifth total this season, off an assist on a free kick from Dweck in the 56th minute.  The assist was Dweck's 12 of the year, breaking Emory's single-season record.

Dweck also moved into sole possession of sixth-place on Emory's career assist leaders, notching the 22nd of her career.

Junior Lauren Smith added to Emory's lead in the 73rd minute with a steal and a breakaway that turned into her third goal of the campaign.  Dweck added to the score with a penalty kick goal in the 78th minute, set up by a foul on a Hailey Morris breakaway.  It was Dweck's second goal of the season, giving her a team-high 16 points this year.

Emory's defense stood strong again as well, allowing just nine shots, and five shots on goal to the Tigers.  Freshman Erica Stein played all 90 minutes in the net, allowing one goal and converting four saves.

The Eagles finished the campaign with an 8-5-5 record, and dropped Sewanee to 11-3-3 on the season in the process.  Emory finishes the season on a high note, with four-consecutive victories, a season-long streak.  The Eagles outscored their final four opponents 12-2, including a 9-1 advantage in the final two games of the season.

The match concludes the 2009 season for the Eagles.
