Emory Women’s Soccer Ties Transylvania, 1-1, at Smart Women Sweat Challenge
The Emory University women's soccer team played to its third tie
contest in five games this season, as Saturday's match between the
Eagles and Transylvania University ended knotted, 1-1.
The match, played at Agnes Scott College as part of the Smart Women
Sweat Challenge, brought Emory's record to 1-1-3 this season, while
Transylvania fell to 2-1-1.
After a scoreless first half, Emory fell behind briefly in the
second as Transylvania's Sarah Zembrodt scored off
a rebound in the 63rd minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0
lead.
The Eagles would answer right back, however, as senior
Shayna Bryan put the Eagles on the board two
minutes later to knot the contest at a goal apiece. The goal
was the first of the season for Bryan, who missed the first three
games of the season after leading Emory in scoring in 2008.
Neither team would score the rest of regulation, or during either
overtime period.
Emory's Kirsten Baecher earned the tie in goal,
playing all 110 minutes and bringing her record to 0-1-3. The
junior made eight saves and allowed just the one goal, lowering her
goals against average to 1.71 this season.
Emory will conclude its weekend at the Smart Women Sweat Challenge
on Sunday at 2:00 PM, as the Eagles will face Millsaps College at
Agnes Scott.
Game Notes
Emory's three ties this season are already the team's most
since the 2000 season, when the Eagles recorded four ties... The
program's record for ties in a season is six, set during the 1998
season, when Emory went 14-1-6... Today's contest was just the
second this season that the Eagles have not held a lead in.
