Emory Womens Soccer to Kick Off its Season against the Reigning NAIA Champs
The Emory University women’s team will open its 2010
season with a strong challenge, facing the reigning NAIA Champions
in Lee University, at 5:00 PM at the Woodruff Physical Education
Center on Wednesday, September 1st.

Emory University Eagles
Emory finished the 2009 season on a four-game winning streak,
which included a pair of shutout victories. The Eagles
were 8-5-5 overall last season, including a 2-3-2 mark in
University Athletic Association (UAA) matches. Emory will be
returning all-UAA second team forward Melanie
Levy, in addition to honorable mention defender
Emily Rubin. The Eagles are led by head
coach Sue Patberg, who is 62-19-12 during her
previous five seasons with Emory.
Lee University Lady Flames
The Lady Flames will enter 2010 looking for their
third-consecutive NAIA Championship, following a 24-1-1 record in
2008 and a 21-2-1 record in 2009. Lee has already begun its
2010 campaign, winning their season-opening match against the
University of Mobile, 2-0. Among the returners for Lee is
Jamie Achten, a two-time all-American and the squad’s leading
scorer in 2009. The Lady Flames are led by head coach Matt
Yelton, who is 157-29-5 during his seven previous seasons at
Lee.
Matchup
This will be the second matchup all time between the two
teams. The squads met for the first time last season in
Cleveland, TN, with Lee coming away with a 4-0 win over the
Eagles.
Emory Notes
Emory was picked to finish fourth in the University Athletic
Association (UAA), according to the conference coaches’
preseason poll… The Eagles are undefeated in 29 of their
last 30 home games, going 24-1-5 during the stretch… Emory
is 100-27-15 for a .757 winning percentage in the month of
September since 1993, including an 18-2-5 mark since 2007…
Emory’s returning players accounted for 27 of the
team’s 33 goals last season.
