#14 Emory to Face Conference-Rival Wash U. in UAA Opener
The 14th-ranked Emory University women's soccer team
will play the opening game of its 2010 University Athletic
Association (UAA) schedule on Sunday, October 3rd,
traveling to St. Louis to take on the reigning conference champions
and 2009 NCAA D-III runners-up, Washington University (Mo.).

Emory University Eagles
Emory will enter the match undefeated in 2010, with an overall
record of 8-0-1. The Eagles are also 4-0-1 in matches away
from the Woodruff P.E Center this season. The team has won
four-straight games by a combined margin of 15-1, including a 3-1
victory at Maryville College last Sunday. In that game,

Rubin scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick,
and assisted on another, while freshmen Kelly
Costopoulos and Lauren
Gorodetsky each scored a goal and Clare Mullins
assisted on two of the scores. Emory is led by head coach
Sue Patberg, who is 70-19-13 over her six years
with the team.
Washington University Bears
The Bears are 4-5-0 this season, including a mark of 4-2-0 at
home. Washington had lost four-straight
matches, including three of which have come against ranked
Division III opponents, before a 4-0 win over Principia College on
Thursday night. The Bears are 1-3-0 against ranked opponents
this season. Washington is led by head coach Jim
Conlon, who is 35-13-5 during his three seasons with the
team.
Matchup History
Emory is 14-5-2 all time against Washington University,
despite losing the last two games played in St. Louis. Last
year at the Woodruff P.E. Center, the Eagles played the Bears to a
1-1 double-overtime tie, with current-season Meghan McMahon
scoring the Eagles' only goal in the contest.

Emory freshman Clare Mullins was named the
UAA's Defensive Athlete of the Week for Women's Soccer, after
helping the Eagles defense allow just one goal, while scoring two
goals of her own and assisting on three others, during two games
last week… Emory is currently ranked eighth among all
Division III teams with a 0.944 won-lost-tied percentage, and
25th with a 0.526 team goals-against average…
Sophomore goalkeeper Kaele Leonard is
ranked eighth in Division III with a 0.95 save percentage and
11th with a 0.208 goals-against average…
Sophomore midfielder Lee
Bachouros is 82nd among all Division III
players with 0.56 assists per game… Emory will enter
conference play tied with Brandeis University for the fewest goals
allowed this season (five), and second among all UAA teams with a
0.54 goals against average.
