The Emory University Women's Soccer Team opened its 2014 campaign with a 1-1 double overtime tie against Christopher Newport University, as a part of the Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists Classic in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Friday.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Eagles equalized the match with a 43rd-minute goal from sophomore Cristina Ramirez. The two teams would then play scoreless soccer through the rest of the first half, second half, and two ten-minute overtime periods.
Emory outshot Christopher Newport 18-6 in the game, including a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Eagles' goalkeeper Liz Arnold made three saves in the tie.
Senior Emily Feldman led all Emory players with five shots in the game, including three on goal, while senior Karina Rodriguez added four shots, with a pair on target.
The Eagles will return to action, wrapped up play at the Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists Classic against host Virginia Wesleyan College at 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 30th.
