Rachel Moreland joined the Emory women's soccer program as an
assistant coach in June 2008.
With Moreland serving as the assistant coach over the
past four seasons, the Eagles have a record of 57-12-12, good
for a 0.778 winning percentage. She has helped lead the
Eagles to NCAA Tournament appearances and at least 16 wins in 2008,
2010 and 2011. Emory has won University Athletic Association
(UAA) Championships under Moreland's leadership during the 2008 and
2011 seasons.
Most recently, Moreland guided the Eagles to a record-setting 2011
campaign, during which the team recorded the first undefeated
regular season in Emory Athletics history and matched a program
record for wins with a 17-1-2 record. The Eagles advanced to
the NCAA Championships for Moreland's third time, reaching the
round of 16.
During the 2010 campaign, Moreland’s efforts helped Emory to
a 16-2-4 overall record and a trip to the quarterfinals of the NCAA
Championships, the best finish in the program’s
history. During her first year with the team in 2008, she
helped the Eagles go 16-4-1 and reach the NCAA Tournament round of
32.
Moreland came to the Emory program after a two-year stint as a
graduate assistant coach at UNC-Pembroke, an NCAA Division II
member. During the 2007 season, she helped guide the Lady
Braves to a 12-6-1 record.
As a player, Moreland was a four-year starter (2002-05) and
two-time captain at Limestone College (SC). A three-time
All-Carolinas/Virginia Athletic Conference pick, she played in 67
games during her career, 60 in a starting capacity, and finished
with 41 points including a 20-point campaign (9-2) in 2003.
In addition to her soccer exploits, Moreland played for the
fifth-ranked Limestone women's lacrosse team during her last
semester as an undergraduate and helped the Lady Saints to a Final
Four appearance.
Her coaching resume includes five years as an instructor at the
Denison Cabral Soccer Academy. Rachel also enjoyed a brief
stay as a member of the W-League's Maryland Pepsi Pride Practice
squad.
"I am excited that Rachel will be joining Emory," Patberg said upon
Moreland's hiring. "She has valuable coaching experience and
will make significant contributions to the program. She has
already hit the ground running and is looking to help take our team
to the next level."
A member of the CVAC Presidential honor roll, Moreland earned her
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Limestone in
2006. Most recently, she obtained her Master's Degree in
Physical Education-Sports Administration from UNC-Pembroke in May
of 2008.
