Whitley Earns Emorys Second-Straight UAA Athlete of the Week Honor
For the second-consecutive week, a member of the Emory University women's swimming and diving team was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week, as junior April Whitley earned the honor for her performance during Emory's meet last weekend.
Whitley was part of three NCAA ‘B' cut performances during
the Eagles split performance against Division I opponents UNC
Wilmington and the University of Houston. She finished second
in the 100-yard breaststroke with a ‘B' cut time of 1:06.83
in the event. The junior then claimed third in the 200-yard
breaststroke, finishing with a qualifying time of 2:26.29.
Whitley rounded out the meet with her third qualifying time and a
third-place finish in the 200-medley relay (1:48.30), swimming the
breaststroke leg of the event.
Her performance on Saturday helped the Eagles to a 152-141 win over
Houston, and a 164-131 loss to UNC Wilmington.
Whitley joins senior Lillian Ciardelli as members
of the Emory women's swimming and diving team to be honored by the
UAA in the first two weeks of competition.
The Eagles, who currently stand at 2-1 on the season, will continue
their schedule on Wednesday at the University of Georgia.
