Emorys Anne Culpepper Earns UAA Athlete of the Week Honor
Sophomore Anne Culpepper, of the Emory
University swimming and diving team, was named a University
Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week, based on her
performance at the Emory Fall Invitational.
Culpepper finished the Emory Fall Invitational with three NCAA
‘B' cut times and four top-10 finishes, helping the team to a
first place finish out of eight teams. Culpepper finished
second out of 62 swimmers in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of
5:03.34, an NCAA ‘B' cut time. The sophomore recorded
another second-place finish and provisional qualifying time in the
200-yard backstroke, besting 72 other swimmers with a time of
2:05.30. Her final provisional time of the meet came in the
200-yard freestyle, where her mark of 1:55.83 placed her ninth
among 95 competitors. Culpepper also finished eighth in the
1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:54.05.
Culpepper, winner of three all-America certificates last season,
accounted for 23 of Emory's 456 points scored during the meet,
helping the Eagles win their first championship-style meet of the
season.
Culpepper is the fifth Emory women's swimmer to be honored by the
UAA this season. Earlier in the year, seniors Ruth
Westby and Lillian Ciardelli, junior
April Whitley and freshman Leslie
Hackler earned UAA Athlete of the Week honors.
The Eagles will return to action on Thursday, December
3rd at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational.
