Emory University junior April Whitley was named
the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week for
NCAA Division III, based on her performance at the Emory Fall
Invitational last weekend.
Whitley swam to four top-three finishes and four NCAA ‘B' cut
times at last weekend's meet, helping Emory to a first-place
finish. The junior finished second in both the 100-yard
breaststroke (1:06.17) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.90) and
third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.03). She also
helped Emory win the 400-yard medley relay with a time of
3:56.42.
Whitley becomes the third Eagle to earn the honor this season,
joining teammates Ruth Westby and John Petroff. Winners are
selected by collegeswimming.com.
Emory, ranked second in Division III, will return to action on
December 3rd at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational, the
squad's final meet of the 2009 calendar year.
