Despite recording 26 NCAA Division III provisional qualifying
times, the Emory University swimming and diving teams dropped both
the men's and women's portions of its dual meet at Division I
Georgia Tech on Saturday.
The fourth-ranked Emory men lost a 169 - 123 decision to the Yellow
Jackets, while the women suffered a 174 - 122 defeat.
The Emory women totaled 24 NCAA qualifying times, including
multiple individual ‘B' cut marks for Ruth
Westby, Lillian Ciardelli, Marie
Kim, April Whitley, Natty
Chalermpalanupap and Leslie
Hackler. The Eagles' 200-medley relay team and
200-yard freestyle relay team each recorded ‘B' cut times as
well.
The Emory men received ‘B' cut times from John
Petroff in the 100-yard butterfly and Patrick
Brady in the one-meter dive. Sophomore Paul
Weinstein (1000 free) and senior Nathan
Godsman also contributed with the Eagles' only two
first-place finishes of the meet.
Emory's men fell to 5-3 with the loss, while the women dropped to
6-3. The Eagles will wrap up their dual meet competition for
the 2009-10 season next weekend, as Emory will travel to Division I
Auburn University to face the Tigers at 11:00 AM on Saturday,
February 6th.
