Emory Turns in Another Strong Performance in Losses to Georgia
Despite suffering a pair of losses, the Emory University men's
and women's swimming and diving teams put together a number of
strong individual performance against the University of Georgia,
one of the top NCAA Division I programs.
The Emory men suffered a 147 - 80 defeat to the Bulldogs, while the
women fell to the Lady Bulldogs 145 - 92. The men dropped to
1-2 on the season with the loss, while Emory's women's record fell
to 2-2.
The women recorded eight more NCAA ‘B' cut times in
individual events and two in relays. Emory's 200-yard
freestyle relay team finished first in the event with a time of
1:35.82, good for a ‘B' mark. Senior Ruth
Westby recorded Emory's other first-place finish during
the meet, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.10
seconds.
Other highlights from the women's side of the meet included the
first provisional qualifying times in their respective events for
sophomore Claire Pavlak (24.31 seconds - 50 free),
sophomore Whitley Taylor (52.73 seconds - 100
free), sophomore Jennifer Aronoff (1:07.27 - 100
breast) and sophomore Anne Culpepper (5:07.25 -
500 free). Senior Lillian Ciardelli recorded
the best time by an Emory swimmer in the 100-yard butterfly this
season, finishing third with a mark of 56.90 seconds.
Four Emory men recorded team-best times this season during the meet
as well. Senior Brad Sloan recorded a mark
of 21.60 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, senior Tom
DiMarco finished the 200-yard individual medley in a time
of 1:56.54, junior Mark Bernstein turned in a time
of 47.82 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, and sophomore diver
Daniel Kolb posted a score of 242.78 points in the
three-meter dive.
The Eagles will now take a 10-day break before returning to the
pool, as Emory will host its fall invitational starting on
Saturday, November 14th.
