Whitley Named UAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Emory University senior April Whitley was named
the Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the University Athletic
Association (UAA), after her performance at the Eagles’
triangle meet against the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech
last Wednesday.
Whitley was part of two NCAA ‘B’ cut performances,
during the meet. She swam the breaststroke leg on the
Eagles’ 400-yard medley relay team, which finished fourth in
a ‘B’ cut time of 3:54.97. Whitley later recorded her
second provisional time of the meet in the 100-yard breaststroke,
finishing third with a mark of 1:06.47.
This was the second time that Whitley has been named the UAA
Athlete of the Week during her career, after earning the honor on
November 2nd of last season. She becomes the
second Emory swimmer to win the honor is as many weeks, as
sophomore Leslie Hackler won the award last
week.
Whitley and the rest of the Emory squad will return to action this
weekend, hosting the Emory Fall Invitational throughout the day on
Saturday and Sunday.
