Emory Swimming & Diving Finishes First at the Emory Fall Invitational

The Emory University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each placed first at the Emory Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Woodruff P.E. Center.

The Emory women scored 425.5 points to finish well ahead of second-place swim club Swim Atlanta, which finished with 307.5 points. The Emory men completed the meet with 405 points, also winning by a large margin over the second-place Dynamo Swim Club.

Individually, Emory's women's swimmers recorded 24 NCAA 'B' cut times and seven first-place finishes, while the men finished with two 'B' cut times and 10 first-place finishes.

For the women, 10 different Eagles recorded NCAA provisional times, led by junior Anne Culpepper (500 free, 200 back, 200 free), senior Liz Horvat (500 free, 1,650 free, 400 IM) and freshman Sadie Nennig (200 IM, 200 back, 100 back), who each had three provisional times.  Junior Claire Pavlak (50 free, 100 free), senior April Whitley (100 breast, 200 breast) and sophomore Leslie Hackler (100 fly, 200 fly) each had two provisional times, while sophomore Jacqueline Schneider (200 back), freshman Laura Manor (400 IM), sophomore Taryn Lushinsky (400 IM) and freshman Jennifer Pak (200 free) had a provisional time apiece.

Individual first-place finishers for the Emory women at the meet included Whitley in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststrokes, and Horvat in the 400-yard individual medley.  The Eagles also had first-place finishes and provisional qualifying times from their top 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard medley relay, and the 200-yard medley relay.  Emory also had the top two women's 400-yard freestyle relay teams, with each recording a 'B' cut time.

On the men's side, sophomore Peter O'Brien recorded a provisional time of 2:06.08 with a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, while junior Patrick Augustyn finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a 'B' cut time of 1:53.48.  Other individual first-place finishes for Emory included O'Brien in the 200-yard individual medley, senior Mark Bernstein in the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Justin Beegle in the 100-yard breaststroke, and freshman Ross Spock in the 100-yard freestyle.
