Emory Swimming & Diving Heads to Rochester for the 24th Annual UAA Championships

The Emory University men’s and women’s swimming and
diving teams will head to the University of Rochester this week in
search of their 13th-consecutive conference titles at
the 2011 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships,
starting Wednesday, February 16th.
There will be live-updating results and a webcast of the
meet. The links to both will be available at the meet

The Emory women will enter the meet as the top-ranked NCAA Division
III team in the nation. Other nationally-ranked UAA teams
include the 10th-ranked University of Chicago,
11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University, and
12th-ranked Washington University (Mo.), while Case
Western Reserve and New York University each received votes in the
latest poll.
At last year’s UAA Championships, hosted by the Eagles in
Atlanta, GA, the Emory women scored a meet-record 2,065 points, 686
points higher than second-place Chicago. Eagles’ senior
Liz Horvat and former Eagle Ruth Westby shared the
2010 UAA Swimmer of the Year honors at the meet. The Emory
women totaled 16 UAA Championships, 31 all-UAA honors and 11
conference records during last year’s championships.
Including the 12-straight titles, the Emory women have won 18 of
the 23 UAA Team Championships.
The Emory men are currently ranked second in the nation. Also
ranked in the conference are #12 Carnegie Mellon, #13 Washington,
and #18 Chicago, while Case Western and NYU each received
votes.
The Eagles scored 1,855 points on the men’s side of the meet
last season, eclipsing second-place Carnegie Mellon by 331
points. The Emory men notched nine individual and relay
conference championships and 24 all-UAA honors in 2010. Each
of the Eagles 12 UAA titles have come over the last 12 years.
The 2011 UAA Championships are being hosted by the University of
Rochester at the Webster Aquatic Center. The events will
begin with the men’s one-meter diving, starting with the
preliminaries on Wednesday, February 16th at 12:45 PM,
and continuing with the finals at 5:30 PM. The swimming
preliminaries will begin at 10:00 PM on Thursday, February
17th at 10:00 AM, with the event finals taking place at
6:00 PM. The meet will continue with the preliminaries at
10:00 AM and the finals at 6:00 PM, through the final session on
Saturday, February 19th.
