Emory Swimming & Diving Teams & Individuals Earn CSCAA Academic Recognition

The Emory University Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams were each named Team Scholar All-America Honorees by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).  In addition, 33 members of the teams received individual recognition by the CSCAA for their athletic and academic achievements during the 2012-13 campaign.

The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  The Emory women recorded a team GPA of 3.58, the seventh-best mark among Division III squads, while the men had a GPA of 3.53, the fifth-best among recognized teams.

13 members of the women's team and 10 members of the men's squad were named to the CSCAA NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Scholar All-America First Team, including Elizabeth Aronoff, Anna Dobben, Sarah Greene, Taryn Lushinsky, Kylie McKenzie, Mia Michalak, Sadie Nennig, McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg, Renee Rosenkranz, Ann Wolber, Brooke Woodward, Michelle York, Nina Zook, Ryan Bass, Justin Beegle, Stephen Czaja, Miller Douglas, Matt Kuhlik, Peter O'Brien, Jeff Simpson, Jake Stephens, Richard Upton and Andrew Wilson.

The Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have qualified for and competed at their respective national championship.

An addition six women and five men earned honorable mention recognition, including Carolyn Bonfield, Annabel Enquist, Megan Freeman, Suzanne Lemberg, Jacqueline Schneider, Ellie Thompson, Darrell Eacret, John Galvin, Matt O'Brien, Eric Ruggieri and Matt Wu.

The Honorable Mention Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have achieved a "B" time standard, but have not qualified to compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets. 

The Emory women won their fourth-consecutive national title at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships, while the men claimed fifth-place, marking the squad's 14th-straight top-five finish.  The Eagles will open their 2013-14 season on Friday, October 11th with the annual Blue/Gold Meet at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
