The Emory University Women's Swimming and Diving team won 13 out of 19 events to win the Emory Invitational, held at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center this past weekend.
The Eagles scored 757 points over the two-day meet, 184 points more than second place Wingate University. Catawba College placed third with 302 points followed by Lenoir-Rhyne University at 149, Limestone with 128 and Georgia Southern with 76.
Senior Cindy Cheng paced the Eagles with four individual first place finishes as she touched first in the 500 Freestyle (5:02.19), 200 Backstroke (2:02.83 – NCAA B Cut), 100 Backstroke (57.10 – NCAA B Cut), and 200 Freestyle (1:53.02). Cheng added a pair of top-two showings as a member of the 200 Medley and 400 Medley Relays. The 200 Medley Relay of Cheng, senior Ming Ong and juniors Ashley Daniels, Meg Taylor posted a time of 1:48.77 to finish second while the 400 Medley Relay team of Cheng, junior Hannah Lally, sophomore Caroline Olson and freshman Lucy Daro clocked in at 3:55.68 to win the event.
The Eagles also earned the top spot in the 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle Relays. The 200 Free Relay of Daro, Taylor, Olson and junior Fiona Muir threw down a time of 1:36.68 with the 400 Free group of Muir, Taylor, Olson and Daro recording a time of 3:31.70.
Other individual event winners for the Eagles at the meet included Daniels in the 100 Breaststroke (1:07.88), Muir in both the 100 Freestyle (52.45) and 50 Freestyle (24.11), freshman Katie Kushner in the 1-meter dive (273.30 – NCAA B Cut), senior Shelby Frugé in the 1000 Freestyle (10:45.64) and Ong in the 400 IM (4:35.78).
Emory will be back in action the weekend of November 30th-December 2nd with the Miami and SCAD Invitationals.
