McManigle Repeats as Wilson/ITA South Region Singles Champion; Teams with Dawson for Doubles Title
For the second consecutive year, Emory University's
Lorne McManigle came away with the Wilson/ITA
South Region Singles Championship, and later teamed with
Zahra Dawson to claim the doubles title.
By virtue of winning the singles and doubles tournament, McManigle
and Dawson will earn all-America honors, in addition to advancing
to the ITA Small College Championships, in Mobile, AL from October
15th-18th.
In the semifinals of the singles bracket, McManigle survived a
marathon match with teammate and fourth seed Lindsay
Reidenbach, winning out 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (2). On the
other side of the bracket, Dawson defeated teammate Jordan
Wylie 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the finals. In the
final match, McManigle defeated Dawson 7-5, 6-2.
In the finals of the doubles bracket, McManigle and Dawson teamed
up to defeat Reidenbach and Sara Vrabec 8-3.
Last season, McManigle won both the singles and doubles tournament,
teaming with Sabra Rogers to earn the doubles tournament
victory. This is the ninth-consecutive year an Emory player
has won the tournament, and the third-straight year the Eagles have
won both the singles and doubles tournaments. McManigle is
the first player to repeat for Emory since Serena Burkard in 2004
and 2005.
