#3 Eagles Winning Streak Ends with Loss to Auburn Montgomery
The Emory University women's tennis team's four-match winning
streak came to a close on Tuesday night, as the Eagles fell to the
top-ranked NAIA team, Auburn University Montgomery, 5-4, at the
Woodruff Physical Education Center.
The Eagles received their points in the match from singles
victories for freshman Jordan Wylie in the third
singles contest (6-1, 3-6, 10-8) over Whitney Byrd (ranked
24th in the NAIA), and from senior Tshema
Nash in the fifth singles match (6-4, 6-1) over Hannah
Appleyard.
Emory also got a pair of victories in the third-doubles and
sixth-singles matches, as Auburn Montgomery did not field a full
team of six for the match and was forced to default the two
points.
In doubles play, the Eagles lost a pair of close matches, as
Lorne McManigle and Zahra Dawson
fell 9-7 in the first match, and Sabra Rogers and
Nash dropped an 8-6 decision. McManigle, Dawson and
Lindsay Reidenbach each lost singles matches as
well.
The Eagles dropped to 4-2 on the season with the loss, while Auburn
Montgomery improved to 3-0. Emory will be back in action this
Friday, February 26th at 11:30 AM, as the Eagles will
face 13th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in the first
round of the ITA National Indoor Tournament in Greencastle, IN.
