Second-Ranked Womens Tennis Hosts #8 DePauw on Saturday
The Emory University women’s tennis team, ranked second in
the nation, will look to extend its eight-match winning streak on
Saturday, March 20th, as the Eagles will host
eighth-ranked DePauw University at 12:00 PM.
The Eagles will enter the match with an overall record of 12-2 this
season, including a perfect 10-0 record against Division III
opponents this season. The Eagles are also 3-1 in matches at
the Woodruff Physical Education Center during the campaign.
Emory is ranked first in the Atlantic South Region, according to
the ITA poll released earlier this week, and features the
region’s top-ranked singles player in Lorne
McManigle, in addition to third-ranked Zahra
Dawson, sixth-ranked Jordan Wylie, and
ninth-ranked Lindsay Reidenbach. In the
regional doubles rankings, Dawson and McManigle are ranked second,
Tshema Nash and Sabra Rogers are
ranked fifth, and Reidenbach and Wylie are ranked
12th.
DePauw will enter the meet with a 10-1 record this season,
including wins in each of its last six matches. The Tigers
are 6-1 against Division III teams and 1-0 in road matches during
the year. DePauw’s only loss of the year was an 8-1
defeat at the hands of the University of Chicago, who Emory
defeated 6-3 at the ITA Indoor Championships.
DePauw, ranked third in the Central Region, features the
region’s third-ranked singles player in Janelle Arita, and
20th-ranked singles player in Kelly Gebert.
DePauw’s top doubles team of Greer Mackie and Kayla Smith are
also ranked third in the Central Region.
Last season, the two teams met at the ITA Indoor Championships on
February 27th, 2009, with the Eagles coming away with a
7-2 victory, including wins in all six singles matches.
