Clark Named UAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
For the second time this season, Emory University’s
Gabrielle Clark was named the University Athletic
Association’s (UAA) Athlete of the Week for women’s
tennis, based on the freshman’s performance against
12th-ranked Middlebury College and eighth-ranked Tufts
University.
As part of the Fab 10 Tournament, Clark went 2-0 in singles matches
against ranked NCAA Division III opponents, including a win over
the reigning NCAA singles champion. On Sunday, Clark helped
the Eagles to a 7-2 win over Tufts with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the
first singles match over Julia Browne, last year’s NCAA D-III
singles tournament winner and the third-ranked singles player in
the Northeast Region. On Friday, Clark won both of her
matches, defeating the Northeast Region’s eighth-ranked
singles player 6-2, 6-4, and winning 8-5 with McManigle in the
first doubles match over the regionally second-ranked pairing.
Clark, the Atlantic South Region’s top-ranked singles player,
has won 10-straight singles matches, improving to 18-4 overall this
year in singles play, and to 15-7 in doubles matches. Her 18
wins in singles matches this year are the second-most among Emory
players.
Clark has helped the third-ranked Eagles win 13-straight matches,
with a 13-2 overall record.
