Dawson Earns UAA Athlete of the Week Honors
Emory University junior Zahra Dawson was named
the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for
women’s tennis, after winning the singles and doubles draws
at the USTA/ITA Fall South Region Championships.
Entering the singles draw as the second-seeded player, Dawson won
all six of her singles matches, including a 6-1, 6-0 win over
top-seeded teammate Gabrielle Clark in the championship
match. She also entered the doubles tournament with Lorne
McManigle as the top-seeded pairing, going 5-0 in the draw
including an 8-5 win over sixth-seeded teammates Clark and Brenna
Kelly in the championship match. It marked the
second-straight season that Dawson and McManigle have won the ITA
Fall South Region Doubles title.
Dawson, who has now earned all-America honors for her singles play
during each of her first three seasons on the squad, and for
doubles each of the last two years, will advance to the ITA Small
College Nationals from October 14th-16th.
