Dawson & McManigle to Represent Emory Women’s Tennis at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships

Tournament Singles & Doubles Draw

Emory University junior Zahra Dawson and senior Lorne McManigle will head to Mobile, AL this weekend to take part in the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, starting Thursday at 10:30 AM.

After winning the South Region Championship, Dawson will enter the singles draw as the second-seeded player. In her first round matchup, she will face unseeded senior Samantha Frank from Gustavus Adolphus College, who was the winner of the Midwest Regional.  Should Dawson win, she will face the winner of the match between third-seeded Jennifer Kung of Chicago and unseeded Karisse Bendijo of the College of New Jersey on Friday at 8:30 AM.  The singles championship match is scheduled for 8:30 AM on Saturday.

Dawson and McManigle are also seeded second in the doubles bracket, and will face the unseeded pairing of junior Megan Gaard and senior Marianne Barau, also from Gustavus Adolphus and the Midwest Region champions, at 3:00 PM on Thursday.  Should the Eagles pairing advance, they will face the winner of the match between the third-seeded pair of sophomore Kristin Lim and freshman Crystal Lim of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and the unseeded pairing of sophomore Linden Li and junior Carmen Vaca Guzman of the University of Chicago, at 1:00 PM on Friday.  The doubles championship match is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Friday.

Last season, McManigle and Dawson finished sixth overall in the doubles draw.  McManigle also finished seventh last season in the singles draw.

The winners of each of the NCAA Division III singles and doubles draws will advance to the “Super Bowl,” which will also feature the winners of the NCAA Division II, NAIA and Junior/Community College draws.  The "Super Bowl" champions earn wild cards into the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships with the opportunity to win the culminating event held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.  The “Superbowl” semifinals will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, with the championship matches scheduled for a 10:00 AM start on Sunday.

All matches will be held at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama.
