Dawson & McManigle to Represent Emory Women’s Tennis at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships
Tournament Singles & Doubles Draw
Emory University junior Zahra Dawson and senior
Lorne McManigle will head to Mobile, AL this
weekend to take part in the USTA/ITA National Small College
Championships, starting Thursday at 10:30 AM.
After winning the South Region Championship, Dawson will enter the
singles draw as the second-seeded player. In her first round
matchup, she will face unseeded senior Samantha Frank from Gustavus
Adolphus College, who was the winner of the Midwest Regional.
Should Dawson win, she will face the winner of the match between
third-seeded Jennifer Kung of Chicago and unseeded Karisse Bendijo
of the College of New Jersey on Friday at 8:30 AM. The
singles championship match is scheduled for 8:30 AM on
Saturday.
Dawson and McManigle are also seeded second in the doubles bracket,
and will face the unseeded pairing of junior Megan Gaard and senior
Marianne Barau, also from Gustavus Adolphus and the Midwest Region
champions, at 3:00 PM on Thursday. Should the Eagles pairing
advance, they will face the winner of the match between the
third-seeded pair of sophomore Kristin Lim and freshman Crystal Lim
of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and the unseeded pairing of
sophomore Linden Li and junior Carmen Vaca Guzman of the University
of Chicago, at 1:00 PM on Friday. The doubles championship
match is scheduled for 5:00 PM on Friday.
Last season, McManigle and Dawson finished sixth overall in the
doubles draw. McManigle also finished seventh last season in
the singles draw.
The winners of each of the NCAA Division III singles and doubles
draws will advance to the “Super Bowl,” which will also
feature the winners of the NCAA Division II, NAIA and
Junior/Community College draws. The "Super Bowl" champions
earn wild cards into the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor
Championships with the opportunity to win the culminating event
held at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The
“Superbowl” semifinals will begin at 1:00 PM on
Saturday, with the championship matches scheduled for a 10:00 AM
start on Sunday.
All matches will be held at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in
Mobile, Alabama.
