Emory Women’s Tennis to Face Four Opponents in Four Days
The Emory University women's tennis team will kick off a busy stretch of play on Thursday, hosting NCAA Division I Murray State University on Thursday at the Woodruff P.E. Center. The Eagles will also play three matches at Division I Wofford College, facing Wofford, Washington & Lee, and DePauw.
Thursday's match against Murray State is slated for a 3:00 PM start. Emory will face Wofford at 3:00 PM on Saturday in Spartanburg, SC, and then play back-to-back games against ranked NCAA Division III teams on Sunday, facing 10th-ranked Washington and Lee University at 9:00 AM, and 15th-ranked DePauw University at 1:00 PM.
Emory is currently on a seven-match winning streak, including four-straight victories against nationally-ranked Division III teams. The Eagles are 7-2 overall this season, and 5-0 against Division III squads.
The Murray State University women's tennis team is 4-8 this season, including losses in three of their last four matches. However, the Racers are coming off a 6-1 win over George Mason on Tuesday. Emory is 1-0 all time against Murray State, with a 5-4 win in 2001.
Wofford currently has a 9-5 record in 2011, and will face Washington and Lee on Saturday before taking on the Eagles. Most recently, the Terriers claimed a 7-0 victory over Western Carolina University on Wednesday. Emory is 4-2 all time against Wofford, including a 7-0 win in the last meeting in 2009.
Washington and Lee is 10-1 this season, with its only loss coming to Denison University at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Since the loss, the Generals have rattled off seven-straight victories, including a 9-0 win over Guilford College on Sunday. Emory is 13-8 all time against Washington & Lee, including a split over two games last season. However, the Eagles win was a 5-0 victory coming in the third round of the NCAA Championships.
DePauw and Emory will be meeting for the second time this month, after the Eagles defeated the Tigers 8-1 at the ITA Indoor Championships. The Tigers are 3-4 overall this season, and Emory is 17-0 all time against DePauw.
