Emory Women’s Tennis to Face Shorter in Mid-Week Matchup
The Emory University women's tennis team, ranked third in Division III, will play its first road match of the 2012 spring season this week, traveling to Rome, Georgia to face Shorter College of the NAIA on Thursday, February 23rd at 3:00 PM.
The Eagles, ranked third in Division III and first in the Atlantic South Region, currently stand at 2-2 on the season, including a 2-0 mark against other D-III squads. The Eagles are coming off a pair of 9-0 victories at home against Huntingdon College and Agnes Scott College on Sunday.
Shorter will enter Wednesday's match with a 5-1 record, including a 3-1 mark at home this season. The Hawks are currently fifth in the Southern States Athletic Conference poll, and 15th in the NAIA Coaches' Poll. Among Shorter's top players is Candice Laurent, ranked 22nd in the NAIA and 10th in the NAIA South Region in singles play.
Emory holds a 15-6 advantage all time against Shorter, including victories in each of the last eight meetings, dating back to the 1999 season. The teams last met on February 6, 2008, with the Eagles coming away with a 6-3 home victory.
