Emory University junior Gabrielle Clark was named the University Athletic Association's (UAA) Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, after recording perfect records in singles and doubles play during the Eagles' two matches against Division II opponents in Hawaii last week.
During the Eagles' 9-0 win over the University of Hawaii – Hilo on Thursday, Clark won the first singles match over Hilo's Emelie Laussen in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. The following day, during a rain-shortened match against Hawaii Pacific University, she teamed with Annette Sullivan to win the first doubles match 8-4, and claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Celina Goetti in the first singles contest.
Clark, the reigning NCAA singles champion and doubles runner-up, now stands at 15-5 in singles play this season and 13-4 in doubles action. Her play during the week helped the fourth-ranked Eagles improve to 5-2 overall this season.
This was the third time this season and the 10thtime over her career that Clark has garnered a UAA Athlete of the Week honor.
