The Emory University Women's Tennis Team wrapped up their weekend at the Southern Shootout, hosted by NCAA Division I Georgia State University at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The event gave the Eagles' players not in action at the USTA/ITA Small College Nationals an opportunity to face opponents from a number of Division I programs, including the University of Louisiana – Monroe, the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga, and Georgia State.
The tournament format feature a 'round robin' style, pitting singles player and doubles pairings from each school against each other in a series of flights.
Emory highlights from Friday's action included a singles win for sophomore Stephanie Loutsenko over the University of Louisiana – Monroe's Angela Tejedor, 6-3, 6-3, and a doubles victory for senior Brenna Kelly and sophomore Madison Gordon over the University of Tennessee – Chattahoochee's Kaylene Chadwell and CC Mulyadi, 8-7 (5).
On Saturday, both junior Catharine Harris and freshman Katarina Su earned singles victories, with the former claiming a 6-2, 7-6 (1) win over Mulyadi, and the latter defeating Alison Storie of Chattanooga in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
The Eagles wrapped up play on Sunday, with a pair of Emory players adding on singles wins. Junior Rebecca Siegler, returning from doubles action at the USTA/ITA Small College Nationals, defeated Georgia State's Tarani Kamoe in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, while Su earned her second singles victory of the weekend with a 6-2, 6-3 with over Georgia State's Tiffany Flood.
Next up for the Eagles will be the Georgia Southern University Fall Invitational in Statesboro, Georgia from Friday, October 25th through Sunday, October 27th, the squad's final competition of their 2013 fall campaign.
