Emory University freshman Katarina Su was selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for Women's Tennis, based on her play at last weekend's Georgia Southern Fall Invitational in Statesboro, GA.
Su won her singles draw at the event and went 2-2 in doubles play, while facing mostly NCAA Division I competition. In her singles flight, Su defeated opponents from Division I programs Kennesaw State in the quarterfinals and Georgia Southern in the semifinals, before claiming a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Florida Atlantic's Lyndsey Boos to win the draw. In doubles play, the freshman teamed with sophomore Stephanie Loutsenko, as the pair won their final two matches against competitors from Division I Savannah State and Florida Atlantic.
Su finished the fall with a singles record of 8-1, with her only loss coming against teammate Madison Gordon during the ITA Regional Championships. She also was 3-5 in doubles matches during the fall season.
Su and the Eagles will break for the winter, returning to action for the start of the spring 2014 campaign on Thursday, February 20th.
