#2 Emory Women’s Tennis Set to Open Spring Season

The Emory University Women's Tennis Team will kick off the spring portion of its 2013-14 season schedule on the road this week, when the fourth-ranked Eagles play matches at Shorter College and Berry College on Thursday, February 20th, and face the 15th-ranked University of the South and 25th-ranked Case Western Reserve University in Sewanee, Tennessee on Saturday, February 22nd.

Emory, coming off a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships and an 18-5 record in 2013, is currently ranked second among all NCAA Division III teams and first in the Atlantic South Region.  Eagles featured in the first regional singles rankings include top-ranked Michelle Satterfield, third-ranked Melissa Goodman, fifth-ranked Madison Gordon, seventh-ranked Beatrice Rosen, 15th-ranked Stephanie Loutsenko and 22nd-ranked Katarina Su.  Emory's regionally-ranked doubles pairings to start the campaign include second-ranked Satterfield and Rebecca Siegler, fourth-ranked Goodman and Brenna Kelly, seventh-ranked Loutsenko and Rosen and 14th-ranked Gordon and Su.

On Thursday, the Eagles will split their squad between matches against NAIA program Shorter, starting at 2:00 PM, and at Berry College, starting at 3:00 PM.  Berry, which will be opening its season on Thursday as well, is ranked 10th among NCAA Division III teams in the Atlanta South Region, while Shorter (3-1) is unranked among NAIA squads on either the National or Regional level.

Emory's match against nationally 15th-ranked Sewanee is scheduled for noon ET on Saturday.  The Tigers, who suffered a loss to the Eagles in the third round of the NCAA Championships last season, stand at 1-0 for the campaign and feature regionally-ranked singles players in Lindsey Liles (#12) and Annie Veron (#14), while the two also combine for the sixth-ranked doubles pairing in the region.  The Tigers are the fourth-ranked team in the Atlantic South Region.

The Eagles will then take on #25 Case at 4:00 PM in Sewanee on Saturday.  The Spartans stand at 3-0 on the campaign, and are ranked fourth in the Central Region.  The team features singles player Marianne Bonanno, who is ranked 14th in the Central Region.

Results and recaps from each of the matches will be posted to EmoryAthletics.com following the completion of each match.
