Georgia Gwinnett Tops Emory Women's Tennis in Regular Season Finale

The No.-3 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon, falling at home to top-ranked NAIA squad Georgia Gwinnett College, 7-2. The Eagles finish the spring with a 13-6 overall record while the Grizzlies improve to 22-0.

Seniors Katarina Su and Melissa Goodman accounted for the Eagles scoring on the afternoon, both recording singles match victories. Su moved into a tie with classmate Michelle Satterfield for fourth place all-time in Emory history with her 85th career singles win, defeating Alyona Vasilyeva 7-5, 6-0 at fourth singles. She concludes the spring season 16-2 in dual matches and 22-5 overall.

At fifth singles, Goodman collected the victory as her opponent, Margarida Abreu, retired in the middle of the second set. Goodman was leading the match 7-5, 1-0 at the time of the retirement. With the victory, she improved to 19-9 overall including seven straight wins.

Emory will now turn its attention to defending its crown as the NCAA tournament gets underway on Friday, May 12th. The Eagles, already assured of a spot in the tournament by virtue of winning the UAA championship last weekend, will find out who its first round matchup will be when the draw is released on Monday, May 8th on Be sure to check for more information.
