Donino Qualifies For 100 Meter Hurdles In Dramatic Fashion At NCAA Track & Field Championships

It certainly did not come easy, but Emory senior Brittany
Donino qualified for the finals of the 100 meter hurdles
on Friday as the Eagles wound up the second day of competition at
the NCAA III Track and Field Championships.
Donino earned a spot in the finals after winning a run-off against
Barb Kremer of Loras College. In the prelims, both Donino and
Kremer were clocked at 14.32 seconds with Kremer getting the nod to
advance. Following an Emory protest and a review of the
photos of the finish, the results was inconclusive, forcing the
run-off where Donino prevailed. Her time of 14.32 in the
prelims was the second-fastest time in school history, trailing
only Kahlilah Jennings’ time of 14.23 seconds, set during the
1998 NCAA Championships.
In the 100-meter dash, senior Mary Crystal Spence
recorded a time of 12.25 seconds, good for a seventh-place finish
in her heat and 18th overall.
By virtue of qualifying for the finals, Donino earns All-America
honors in the event. The finals in the 100 meter hurdles are
scheduled for 1:45 p.m. on Saturday.
The NCAA Championships in Cleveland, OH will conclude tomorrow,
with Emory’s Alex Greenhouse running in the
finals of the 400-meter hurdles at 3:25 PM, and Lauren
Attiah competing in the triple jump at 2:30 PM.
