Emory Womens Track & Field Finishes Day 1 of the UAAs in Third Place
The Emory University women's track and field had its first
University Athletic Association (UAA) Champion, and qualified 12
others for event finals on Saturday, during day one of the UAA
Indoor Championships.
Sophomore Lauren Attiah won the conference
championship in the long jump, recording a provisional qualifying
distance of 5.51 meters. Senior Brittany
Donino also earned all-UAA honors in the event with a
third-place finish.
Also scoring on the first day was Emory's distance medley relay
team of Calley Edwards, Kaele
Leonard, Melanie Frank and Sara
Gelb, which earned UAA honors with a third-place finish
and a time of 12:20.90.
The Eagles also qualified three athletes in each of the 55-meter
hurdles, 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash. In the 55-meter
hurdles, Donino claimed first with a provisional time of 8.49,
followed by teammate Jasmine McCullough in second
and Laura Lambie-Hanson in fourth. Senior
Mary Crystal Spence finished first in the
200-meter dash (26.16), followed by Attiah in third and
Hadiza Sa-Aadu in fourth. In the 400-meter
dash, sophomore Alix Dyer claimed first with a
provisional time of 58.53, followed by Melanie
Levy in second and Alisha Reynolds in
third.
Emory's Sa-Aadu and Donino also qualified in the 55-meter dash with
second and third-place finishes, respectively, while Frank
qualified for the finals of the 800-meter run with a sixth-place
finish.
The Emory women totaled 22 points during the first day of
competition, trailing only the University of Chicago (60 points)
and Washington University (23 points). The Eagles are tied
with Case Western for third, and sit ahead of Brandeis University
(17 points), New York University (10 points) and Carnegie Mellon
University (1 point).
The Eagles will look to move up in the standings tomorrow, when
action resumes at 10:00 AM.
