Emory Track & Field Returns from Winter Break to Compete at the Appalachian Indoor Open
The Emory University track and field team will return to action
this weekend for its first meet of 2011, as the Eagles will travel
to Boone, NC for the Appalachian Indoor Open.
The meet, hosted by NCAA Division I institution Appalachian State
University, will start at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January
15th, and run throughout the day. Events will be
held at the George Holmes Convocation Center and the Varsity Gym on
the Appalachian State campus.
Emory is one of 14 schools currently scheduled to compete at the
meet, along with South Carolina, Gardner Webb, Milligan, Lynchburg,
Savannah State, Lees-McRae, UNC Ashville, Lenoir-Rhyne,
Winston-Salem, Livingstone, Wofford, and Winthrop.
The Eagles are currently scheduled to feature 28 different athletes
at the meet, participating in 17 events. 15 members of the
men’s team will competing in 10 different events, while the
women will be represented by 13 team members, competing in seven
events. Both teams each have an entry in the 4x400-meter
relay as well.
At last season’s Appalachian Indoor Open, the Eagles recorded
a combined 19 top-10 finishes between the men’s and
women’s squads, while current sophomore Theresa
Ford set a school record with a height of 1.68 meters in
the high jump that still stands today.
