Gallegos Named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team
Emory University junior Tess Gallegos earned a
spot on the Capital One Academic All-District First Teamfor
Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country, based on her athletic
and academic performances during the 2010-11 seasons.
It marked the first Academic all-District honor of Gallegos’
career. She has compiled a 3.80 grade point average as
an anthropology and psychology major, earning six academic
all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors and United States
Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)
All-Academic Team recognition in 2010.
In the fall, Gallegos earned South/Southeast Region Athlete of the
Year honors, after finishing first at the NCAA Regional
Championships for cross country, and was named to the all-UAA Cross
Country second team. She was the team’s top performer
in six cross country races, and set the school’s 6,000-meter
record at the regional championships. During the indoor
season, she has recorded career-best times of 10:20.38 in the
3,000-meter run and 18:04.75 in the 5,000-meter run, while setting
career-best marks of 10:30.15 in the 3,000-meter run and 18:05.22
in the 5,000-meter run during the outdoor season. Gallegos
earned UAA Athlete of the Week honors on November 15th
and March 21st.
By virtue of being named to the all-district first team, Dawson
will be placed on the ballot for the Capital One Academic
all-America teams. The Academic all-America Women’s
Track/Cross Country teams are scheduled to be announced on
Thursday, June 23rd.
Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Emory
nominees represent the "college division" in District 3 which is
composed of NCAA Division II and III, and NAIA schools in the
states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and
Virginia.
