Eagles Struggle During Day 2 of NCAA Championships

The Emory University women's track and field team struggled through a tough second day of competition at the NCAA Division III Championships in Delaware, Ohio, failing to qualify for any of Saturday's finals.

Emory's best performance of the day came from Alix Dyer in the women's 100-meter dash, as the junior recorded a time of 12.45 seconds, but finished 16th overall, failing to qualify for the finals.  The final qualifying time of the preliminary round was 12.23 seconds, while a time of 11.78 seconds was the top time in the event on Friday.

Emory junior Jasmine McCullough finished 23rd in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.41 seconds.  After beating all the competitors in her heat out of the blocks, McCullough hit the second hurdle in the race, costing her a chance at the event's finals.  In the women's triple jump, junior Lauren Attiah finished 24th with a leap of 10.16 meters.

With no participants in Saturday's finals, Friday's competition will conclude a successful 2011 season for the Emory women's track and field team, which included conference titles at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

The lone competitor for the Emory men's team, junior Ian Francis, will take part in the triple jump on Saturday at noon, wrapping up competition for the Eagles at the 2011 NCAA Championships.
