Curtin & Assistants Named the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for Women’s Outdoor Track & Field

Emory University head track and field coach John Curtin and his assistants Carl Leivers, Madeleine Outman, Ross Smithey and Pedro Vasquez were recognized as the University Athletic Association’s (UAA) Women’s Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year, following the team’s victory at last weekend’s conference championships.

It marked the third-straight season that the Emory women’s coaching staff has garnered the honor, after the staff claimed the 2010 Outdoor and 2011 Indoor Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year title.  The honor was the seventh for the women’s outdoor season overall for Curtin’s staff (1990, 1993, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2011).

Curtin’s men’s and women’s staffs have now won 20 UAA Coaching honors, 11 of which have come during  the outdoor season, and nine during indoor conference competition.

The Emory women won the 2011 Outdoor Championships with 202.5 points scored, besting second-place Washington University (Mo.) by 19 points.

The Eagles will return to action on May 7th at the Bob Pollock Invitational at Clemson University.
