Emory Volleyball Announces Early Decision Commitments for 2010-11 School Year

Emory head volleyball coach Jenny McDowell has announced that the following student-athletes will be enrolling at Emory in the fall of 2010 and be competing for the Eagles’ volleyball program.

Molly Landers (Kentfield, CA/The Branson School) – A four-year starter at the libero position for the Branson School, she helped the program to its first state championship as a senior.  Named to the 2009 California State Championship Tournament Team, her play was pivotal him helping her squad win its first North Coast Section championship and Nor Cal title. A co-captain her final campaign, MaxPreps named her to the All-State Division V Team.   She was named to the Main Independent Journal All-League Second Team her sophomore through senior seasons, each year receiving the highest vote total for a defensive player, and was the only freshman performer to receive honorable mention acclaim.

In addition to her high school team, she played for the Absolute Volleyball Club 16’s and 18’s team, as well as the Golden Bear 13’s and 14’s.

“Molly was the libero we targeted from day one,” McDowell stated.  “She is a high energy player with unbelievable passing and defensive skills.  We love her commitment, work ethic and passion to play.  Molly also has the uncanny ability to make everyone on the court better, and we are confident that she is going to make a huge impact on our team.”

Carrie Klemencic (Lawrence, KS/Lawrence High School) – A talented 5-foot-10, right-side performer who served as team captain of her Lawrence High School team in 2009.  Chosen as a All-Sunflower League second-team pick as a junior and senior, she helped her squad to sub state championship honors in 2008 and 2009.

Klemencic played for the Lawrence Mavs 18-1 club this year.

“Carrie has potential to be a great all-around player for us,” McDowell said.  “She is a fundamentally sound volleyball player with outstanding front and back row skills.  Carrie has been taught the game extremely well and understands how to play the game at a high level.”

Casey Perryman (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair High School) – A three-year letterwinner in volleyball at Upper St. Clair High School.  As a senior she captured all-state honors as selected by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association after helping her team to the Section 2 AAA title along with a spot in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.  Perryman served as her team’s co-captain as a senior and recorded 130 kills and 63 total blocks en route to earning a berth on MSA Sports Terrific 21 All-Star Team.   A first-team WPIAL choice in 2009, she captured first team all-section recognition as a junior and senior.

Perryman played for the Renaissance Volleyball Club.

“Casey is an unbelievable athlete with the work ethic to match,” McDowell said.  “She is incredibly quick and can get on the floor like few middle blockers I have ever seen.  She also has the drive and determination to be the best which will allow her to make an immediate impact on our team.”
