Emory Volleyball Captures UAA Crown -- Tops No. 3 Washington University

The Emory University volleyball team captured its third University
Athletic Association crown in five years Saturday evening with a
3-0 over defending UAA champ and No. 3-ranked Washington
University. The Eagles raised their overall record to 34-5
following a 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 triumph over the Bears.
Leading the effort for No. 4 Emory was junior Amelia McCall who hit
46.4 percent with 15 kills and just two errors in 28 attack
attempts. Freshman Breanah Bourque aided in the win with nine
terminations. Senior Vista Murphy led a solid defensive
effort with 15 digs while sophomore Kelsey Hodge added seven.
Sophomore Natalie Schonefeld doled out 31 assists and contributed
two service aces.
Emory prevailed in the title showdown despite not having starters
Alysse Meyer, Jessica McAlvany and Brannan O'Neill in the lineup
who sat out a second straight contest due to a intestinal virus
that hit the team last night and this morning.
With the championship, Emory earns an automatic bid to the NCAA
Tournament which starts next Thursday (Nov. 12). The Eagles
will find out where they are playing and who will provide the
opposition when the field is announced on Monday.
