Emory Volleyball Splits UAA Matches

The Emory University volleyball team opened the University Athletic Association Round Robin II with a split of two matches on Saturday.  The No. 3-ranked Eagles opened the day with a loss to No. 4 Washington University with the Bears posting a 3-0 triumph (25-19, 25-17, 25-18). Emory then regrouped to come away with a 3-1 verdict over the University of Rochester (25-18, 19-25, 25-14, 15-16).  Emory now stands 22-5 on the year, 4-1 in league action.  Serving as the host of this weekend's Round Robin is New York University.

Senior Alysse Meyer led the team's offensive effort in the Rochester match with 15 kills along with a 48.1 hitting percentage. Freshman Alex Duhl chipped in 10 terminations while junior Amelia McCall totaled nine.  Emory's strong defensive play at the net resulted in Duhl recording seven blocks (1-6) while sophomore Jessica McAlvany chalked up five block assists in the two games she saw action in.  Sophomore Natalie Schonefeld dished out 43 assists and led the team with 11 digs.

Meyer tallied a team-high 10 kills against Washington University and finished with a 34.4 attack percentage (10-0-29).  Junior Amelia McCall was next high with six put-aways.  Sophomore Alexandra Wright contributed five kills and five blocks assists.  Schonefeld registered 28 assists while sophomore Brannan O'Neill picked up a team-high 10 digs.

Emory continues play in the Round Robin II on Sunday with contests vs. Brandeis and Case Western.
