Emory Volleyball Nabs Two Wins On Final Day Of UAA Round Robin I

The No. 3-ranked Emory University volleyball team closed out the University Round Robin I in strong fashion on Sunday by capturing a pair of victories.  The Eagles opened the day with a 3-1 win over New York University (25-22, 19-25, 25-17, 25-20) before closing out the weekend with a 3-0 triumph (25-23, 25-13, 25-14) over Carnegie Mellon.  The two victories raise Emory's overall record to 18-2 (3-0 UAA).

The Emory trio of senior Alysse Meyer, sophomore Jessica McAlvany and freshman Breanah Bourque paced the team's offensive attack in the NYU encounter with all three sharing for team honors with nine kills.  Sophomore setter Natalie Schonefeld dished out 38 assists and chipped in 10 digs while sophomore Brannan O'Neill led the Eagles with 12 digs.

Meyer led the team with 11 terminations against Carnegie Mellon and was aided by McAlvany and freshman Alex Duhl who each finished with eight kills.  Senior Vista Murphy and McAlvany kept CMU off balance with tough serving that saw each player chalk up three service aces.  Bourque spearheaded a strong effort at the next with six blocks (1-5-6) which helped the Eagles finish with 10 total blocks.

Emory returns to action on Friday, Oct. 9, when it hosts Armstrong Atlantic at 6:00 p.m.
