Emory Volleyball Splits Two Matches On Final Day Of Washington & Lee Tournament
The top-ranked Emory University volleyball team split a pair of
matches on the final day at the Washington & Lee
Tournament. Emory opened the afternoon with a 3-1 setback to
No. 2 Juniata before rebounding to claim a 3-0 decision against
Washington & Lee in its final outing. The split leaves
Emory's record at 8-1 on the year.
Juniata recorded a 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 triumph over Emory in
the battle between the nation's top two squads. Senior Alysse
Meyer led the Emory effort with 13 kills and just one error in 30
attempts. Sophomore Jessica McAlvany chipped in eight kills
and sophomore Alexandra Wright totaled five blocks. Sophomore
setter Natalie Schonefeld doled out 40 assists and contributed 13
digs in the cause.
Coach Jenny McDowell saw her team bounce back against the host
Generals for a 26-24, 25-13, 25-21 verdict. Meyer continued
her strong play with 10 terminations while McAlvany put away nine
kills. Freshman Alex Duhl made the most of her court time and
helped the offensive attack with eight successful hitting
attempts. Ana Ramirez kept W&L off balance with her
serving, totaling three aces in the match. Senior Vista
Murphy aided in the defensive effort with eight digs.
Meyer and McAlvany were the Emory representatives on the
all-tournament team.
Emory returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 15) when it hosts North
