GUISLER FACTS –  After winning three of four matches at the University Athletic Association Round Robin II last weekend, the Emory volleyball team faces a formidable Challenge this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 22-23) when it plays at Juniata College’s Wid Guisler Invitational.  On Friday, Emory will tangle with Juniata in an 8:00 p.m., start. On Saturday, the Eagles battle nationally ranked Eastern University at 1:00 p.m., and Williams College at 3:00 p.m.

THE COACHES – Emory Head Coach Jenny McDowell (Georgia, ’89) is in her 15th year at the helm of the Eagles’ program.  During her stint at Emory, McDowell has posted a school and career won-lost ledger of 460-122.  She has 11 campaigns of 30 or more wins and has directed the program to 14 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.  She guided Emory to its first-ever national title in 2008 and was named as the AVCA National Coach of the Year.

Following a Tuesday evening win against California (PA),  Brock has a school and career record of 1206-185 with his victory total tops all-time of any NCAA women’s volleyball coach, regardless of division.  A five-time AVCA “National Coach of the Year”,  Brock has guided Juniata to national titles in 2004 and 2006.

In his 21st season as the head coach at Eastern University is Mark Birtwistle.  After a win over Wilkes on Tuesday, Birtwistle has compiled an impressive 490-178 won-lost ledger.  He has directed the program to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances including five trips to the Round of 16.

Emory came out on the short end of a tough 3-2 decision to then No. 1 ranked Washington University in its opening match before registering a 3-0 triumph over Rochester.  On Sunday, the Eagles topped Brandeis, 3-0, and Chicago, 3-1.

Juniata, ranked No. 1, meets Emory with a mark of 23-3. Last evening (Tuesday), the Eagles came away with their sixth straight victory when they topped Division II member California (Pa.), 3-0.
