Amelia McCall Named Division III National Volleyball Player Of The Week

McCall (Montgomery, AL) has been named the Sports
Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III
National Player of the Week following her performance at the
Wid-Guisler Classic, hosted by Juniata College, last weekend.
The 5-foot-11 McCall keyed the Eagles to a 3-0 record with two of
the victories coming against teams ranked among the top five
nationally, in helping the squad raise its overall slate to
23-4. McCall played in all 10 of the team’s sets and
averaged a team-high tying 3.5 kills per set and recorded a fine
34.1 hitting percentage (35-7—82). In addition, she
doled out a team-high tying six service aces and averaged 3.60 digs
per set, good for the No. 2 spot on the club.
In a 3-1 triumph over No. 1-ranked Juniata, McCall finished
with 10 kills, a team-high 19 digs and two aces. Her effort
in the digs department helped limit Juniata to just a 22.0 hitting
percentage, well under its season average. She opened
Saturday’s play with a match-high tying 14 kills and
registered a 44.8 attack percentage (14-1—29) while totaling
12 digs, her 12th double-double of the campaign, in a
3-1 victory over No. 5-ranked Eastern University. Finally, in the
Eagles’ final contest on the weekend, a 3-0 win over
Williams, McCall hit a blazing 60.0 percent (11-2—15) and
contributed three aces and five digs. She has posted double
figures in kills in her last 15 outings.
McCall’s selection represents the sixth time that an Emory
player has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National
Player of the Week Award. She joins Liana Roman (Oct. 14, 1996),
Jennifer Naeger (Oct. 26, 1998), Lulu Sewell (Sept. 9, 2002),
Courtney Rose (Oct. 25, 2004) and Alysse Meyer (Sept. 9,
2008) as Emory performers who have been tabbed for the honor.
Head coach Jenny McDowell and the Eagles, ranked No. 2 in this
week’s national rankings, return to action this Friday and
Saturday (Oct. 29-30) when they host the Emory National
Invitational.
