Emory Prepares For UAA Round Robin II

UAA ROUND ROBIN II FACTS –  After splitting a pair of matches against non-Division III opponents last weekend, the No. 2-ranked Emory volleyball team readies itself for another bout of conference play this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 16-17) when it competes at the University Athletic Association Round Robin II.  Serving as host will be Brandeis University.

Emory will play four matches, starting with No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA D-III champion Washington University on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m.  The Eagles then will meet the University of Rochester in a 2:30 p.m. start.  On Sunday, Emory will meet up with Brandeis at 10:00 a.m., before closing out the weekend with a scheduled noon clash against the University of Chicago.

THE COACHES – Emory Head Coach Jenny McDowell (Georgia, ’89) is in her 15th year at the helm of the Eagles’ program.  During her stint at Emory, McDowell has posted a school and career won-lost ledger of 457-121.  She has 11 campaigns of 30 or more wins and has directed the program to 14 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.  She guided Emory to its first-ever national title in 2008 and was named as the AVCA National Coach of the Year.

Washington University is led by Rich Luenemann (Eastern Illinois, 1972), who is in his 12th campaign as head coach. Heading into the weekend, Luenemann, who has guided the Bears to three national titles, has a school record of 401-52.  Now in his 30th year as a college head coach, which includes an 18-year stint at St. Francis (1981-1998), Luenemann owns a career mark of 991-314.

In her third season as the head coach at the University of Rochester is Ladi Iya (Evansville, 2001).  Prior to her current post, she served as an assistant at Evansville, and has other coaching stops at Nicholls State University and the University of Buffalo.

Michelle Kim (SUNY-Binghamton, 1996) is in her seventh year calling the shots for the Brandeis program.  While with the Judges, she has chalked up a school record of 130-105.

Guiding the fortunes of the Chicago program is third-year head coach Vanessa Walby (Wisconsin-Whitewater, 2002).  Heading into an Oct. 12 match vs. Concordia, Walby has recorded a 66-35 won-lost slate

Washington University, ranked No.1, meets Emory with an unblemished mark of 21-0. Over the weekend, WU hosted and captured its own Washington University Bears Classic, running off a 4-0 record.

Rochester heads into the weekend, sporting an overall record of 11-9 (0-3 UAA).  On Saturday, the Yellowjackets upended Brockport and Buffalo State by 3-0 scores.
