Emory Volleyball Wins Twice On Saturday -- Finishes Classic With 4-0 Record

The No. 5-ranked Emory volleyball team closed out a perfect weekend of results after winning a pair of Saturday contests at its Classic.  The Eagles started out with a 3-0 verdict over Millsaps College before coming away with a 3-0 decision against DeSales University.  Emory now stands 6-1 on the year.

Emory posted a .333 hitting percentage (41-10—93) in the bout vs. Millsaps while holding the Majors to a mark of .020 (21-19—98).  Sophomore Morgan McKnight led the Emory offense with a match-high 10 kills to go along with a .429 (10-1—21) attack percentage.  Sophomore Sara Carr was next up with eight terminations while junior Sydney Leimbach hit .600 on the strength of seven kills with one error in 10 attempts. Leimbach also totaled four block assists. Junior Mady Arles dished out 21 assists and contributed three block assists in the win.  Sophomore Elyse Thompson led all players with 15 digs.

McKnight enjoyed a stellar outing against DeSales, hitting .438 with 13 kills and just one miscue in 25 attempts.  Her performance keyed the Eagles to a .390 (46-7—100) - .198 (35-12—116) advantage in hitting percentage.  Leimbach totaled eight successful attack attempts and wound up with a hitting performance of .438 (8-1—16). Carr also finished with eight terminations while Arles put away six of her seven attack opportunities to complement her 18 assists. 

McKnight was named MVP of the Emory Classic after averaging 4.09 kills over 11 sets and hitting .422 (45-7—90).  Other Emory representatives on the all-tournament team included Leimbach, who hit .500 (32-6—52) and averaged a team-high 1.09 blocks per set, and Thompson, who averaged a team-best 5.08 digs in her 12 sets of competition.

The Eagles have a quick turnaround with their next match scheduled to take place on Monday (Sept. 11) evening at Lee University starting at 7:00 pm.
