Emory Women's Cross Country Second At NCAA Regional Championships -- Earn Automatic Berth To Nationals

The Emory University women's cross country team turned in a solid
effort at the 2009 NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships
Saturday morning, finishing second out of 27 teams. The
Eagles' performance enabled them to earn an
automatic spot in next Saturday's NCAA Championships in
Cleveland, OH.
Emory, ranked 35th in the nation, recorded 100 points
and finished runner-up to No. 29 Rhodes' total of 35 points.
Rounding out the top five teams were Christopher Newport (135 pts),
Lynchburg (155 pts.) and Washington & Lee (169 pts.)
Leading the Emory effort was sophomore Tess
Gallegos who finished ninth overall in the 189-runner
field with a 6K time of 24:04. Junior Natalie
Fenn was right behind Gallegos in 10th position, clocking
in with an effort of 24:08. Senior Rebecca
Flink was the third Emory entry to cross the finish line
with her time of 24:55 placing her 24th. Rounding out the
Emory scorers were freshman Calley Edwards (24:57,
26th place) and junior Jenny Feinberg (25:09, 34th
place.). All five of the Eagles who scored captured
all-region honors. Trinity University's Caitlyn Masse
topped the field with a time of 22:56.
It marked the 19th straight season that Emory had
finished second or better in the Regional Championships.
