Emory Women's Cross Country Takes Home First Place at Berry Invitational

The Emory University women's cross country team, ranked 35th nationally, won its second consecutive meet on Saturday as it took home first place out of 14 teams at the Berry College Invitational.

The Eagles of head coach John Curtin finished with 53 points and topped runner-up Lee University’s 70 points.  Berry College was third (77 pts) and rounding out the top five were Shorter University (102 pts.) and Blue Mountain College (158 pts.).

Emory had two runners among the top 10 finishers and three in the top 12 en route to its first-place showing.  Senior Natalie Fenn paced the Emory pack and was fifth overall in the 124-runner field with a 5k time of 19:08.  Junior Sara Gelb crossed the finish line in 10th place with a showing of 19:41 while sophomore Melanie Frank held down the No. 12 spot with a time of 19:48. Sophomore Calley Edwards was solid as well with her time of 20:11 enabling her to nail down 15th place.

Emory returns to action on Oct. 2 when it competes at the Louisville Classic.
